INVITATION TO A DISCUSSION ABOUT A COMMUNITY FOR ADULTS WITH A LEARNING DISABILITY

Gerry Gillespie has asked Caritas Diocese of Plymouth to share an invitation to parents of adults with a learning disability in the diocese of Plymouth to come together to reflect about how to provide for adult children when parents are no longer able.  He would like explore interest in creating a community.

A vision for a community might be  :

  • a community of life and love where people with and without learning disabilities share and grow together.
  • Where people with a learning disability are at the heart of their own home.
  • To build relationships with people in the local church and neighbourhood.

A community that would strive to:

  • be welcoming and kind
  • be committed to each other
  • bring out the best in each other
  • celebrate being different and diverse
  • encourage one another’s spirituality.

Are you a parent of an adult with a learning disability? Are you worried about what the future holds? Have you ever thought about the possibility of them living in a community setting/supportive environment?

If you would be interested in getting together with other parents to explore/dream then please contact Caritas 01364 645360 caritas@prcdtr.org.uk and we will put you in touch with Gerry.
