Have you visited Sclerder Abbey yet?

Nestling above the sea between Looe and Polperro is the beautiful Sclerder Abbey. Until recently, the Abbey was home to Carmelite sisters and is steeped in prayer over many years. Today, this mantle has been taken up by the Chemin Neuf community, founded in France in 1973. It is an apostolic Catholic community with an ecumenical vocation. Its members are celibates, singles or married couples, lay and ordained, united by their faith in Jesus Christ and their desire to serve the Church, the Gospel and the world.

Chemin Neuf love to welcome people from the Diocese either for private or group retreats, conferences, meetings – residential or non-residential. They also regularly organise and host events through the year. Here are a few of them for 2017:

Quiet Days: a day long guided retreat, including spiritual input, personal prayer and common prayer
1st Feb, 29th March, 10th May

Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius: seven days of guided retreat, to come to know Christ more intimately through His Word in order to love him, to serve better in our everyday like and to recognise God’s call.
11th - 18th February
4th - 11th March

Inner Healing Retreat: four days in silence on healing and reconciliation, an opportunity to review our life’s story in the light of the Lord
18th – 22nd April, 28th May – 1st June
